Sibling Support Volunteer

Description: Working in pairs with another sibling support volunteer to provide monthly virtual activities for siblings of disabled young people on our assistance dog programs. At Pawsitive Squad, the whole family is included in the community. We run parent activity sessions weekly already and are adding in these new sibling sessions to ensure the siblings do not feel left out. Siblings of disabled children can often feel excluded and face additional challenges which other young people do not face. By having these sessions, we want to feel a part of our community, to have a special time where they are the focus and where they can socialise and share with other young carers.

  • To work with your fellow volunteers to create an hour of activities to be ran monthly via zoom. These can be adventure activities, arts and crafts, imagination activities. Ideally activities should loosely have a dog theme.
  • To contact the volunteer supervisor with a list of any equipment which needs to be purchased and posted to participants to enable them to participate in the activity (such as craft supplies).
  • To design a visual social media post using canva.com to attract siblings to participate in the sessions.
  • To run the session, live, on a Friday evening, as a pair once a month via zoom
