We work with clients who experience a variety of acute medical events including diabetes, unexplained hypo's, epilepsy, non epileptic seizures and POTS but are always open to support medical alert & response training where a dog can assist.
There are lots of tasks which can support with acute medical episodes, including:
- Alerting to oncoming medical events
- Pulling emergency cord
- Pressing emergency call button on phone
- Lead to safe place to lie down or an empty seat
- Fetch phone to handler
- Push bag under legs if unconscious
- Fetch beverage or snack to support recovery
- Provide deep pressure for reassurance
- Pull blanket over unresponsive handler
- Alert to presence of life threatening allergen
- Nudge head to side if saliva pooling in mouth
- Deep pressure to provide reassurance
- Tactile stimulation to help regain awareness
- Fetching testing kit
- Fetching medication, hypo kit, suction etc.
- Bark for attention if handler unconcious
- Fetch and pass medical care cue card to bystanders
- Alert to CGM alarms
- Pull clothes to bring handler onto side
