Emotional regulation can be so challenging when trying to navigate in a world which is not designed for you and/or where you're frequently misunderstood. An assistance dog can support with regulation by:
- Alerting to increasing dysregulation to enable the person to use their coping strategies or take a break
- Deep and light pressure therapy
- Fetching regulation items e.g. fidgets
- Find and indicate to parent/ support person
- Take a note communicating emotional state/ needed support from handler to a support person
- Find the person if they have run away or hid
